AQF3 chemical safety accreditation for Australian livestock production
What producers need to know
Livestock producers must be able to demonstrate competent chemical use and support their NVD answers with reliable farm records. AQF3 chemical training provides evidence of chemical skills; LPA accreditation is a separate commitment to the on-farm assurance program. An NVD records livestock food safety and treatment status.
Requirement and meaning for the producer
LPA Competency Requirement
The 2025 LPA Standards, Module 3 requirement 1 and footnote 2 on page 8, require persons responsible for chemical use to demonstrate competency equivalent to Level 3 preparation and application, and transport, handling and storage competencies at audit.
Recognised certificate guidance
ISC advises that users should ideally hold a current recognised chemical user’s certificate or work under someone who holds one. Keep certificates available for audit. The animal-treatment guidance also calls for completion of a chemical user’s course.
NVD declaration
LPA accreditation is needed to access LPA NVDs. Signing declares compliance with LPA practices and the accuracy of the livestock information supplied.
Chemical law and market conditions
Training does not replace state or territory licences, permits, product directions or buyer requirements. Check what applies to the product, activity and location.
CountryCo Ag Services provides the fully accredited AQF3 Chemical Training which consists of the modules
AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals
AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases
These units align with the two competency areas named in the LPA Standards.
